About the competition
From year to year, the “Reading Leader” competition was held from October 1 to April 15 and consisted of several stages, such as a questionnaire, an intellectual tour, a creative workshop and the final stage with the presentation of prizes to the winners. Students competed within the list of 100 books that every student of KazNU should read. For more details on the competition program, see here
Despite the global pandemic, which affected all spheres of society, it was decided to hold the competition online and new realities required new solutions. The competition was timed to the 175th anniversary of the Kazakh poet, philosopher, thinker Abai Kunanbayev. The concept of the competition can be found here
If earlier the stages of the intellectual tour and the creative workshop were a transitional link, according to which the participants competed with each other and, according to the results of the selection, not everyone reached the final. Then, in the competition timed to the 175th anniversary of Abai, it was decided to hold two equal stages “Writing an essay”, as well as “Video competition” (recitation of excerpts from Abai’s works) through the popular social network Instagram. This solution allowed the winners to be determined separately in each stage.
The objectives of the competition:
- Propaganda of spiritual values through familiarizing readers with the rich book fund of the library, including reflecting the creative heritage of Abai;
- Determination of the best readers with high erudition and aesthetic taste.

Terms of the competition
Traditionally until April 15th.
Due to the emergency situation, the deadlines were extended until May 15.
Number of participants
42 people applied for participation, 15 of them completed the work on time, due to the Pandemic and the emergency regime introduced in Kazakhstan, the deadlines for the completion of the work were extended until May 15.
