«ABAI ANTOLOGY» – A GREAT ACHIEVEMENT IN THE HISTORY OF ABAI STUDIES
Abai Kunanbaiuly is a genius of our people, a world-class luminary, a great personality. Last year, by the initiative of Kazakhstan and with the support of UNESCO, the 175th anniversary of our great poet was celebrated at the world level. Research and study, comprehension and analysis of Abai’s heritage are continuing,
First President Nursultan Nazarbayev said: “The words of Abai are the talisman of the Kazakhs.” The head of the state, Kassym-Jomart Kemeluly, set a specific task: “In the future, it is necessary to address the issue of teaching the course “Abai studies” as an integral part of humanitarian subjects.” These words call each of us to take great responsibility for the heritage of Abai, for his study and teaching. The common duty of all of us is to promote and understand the valuable and relevant heritage of the genius Abai for the younger generation. It is expected that from the new academic year, the subject “Abai studies” will be taught in all higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan as an integral part of humanitarian subjects.
Many useful and necessary work in this direction is done by Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. In particular, specific and purposeful work is being carried out at Abai Research Institute at KazNU to introduce the works of the poet-thinker and studies on Abai studies into scientific circulation. For the first time in the history of Abai studies, Abai Research Institute prepared a multi-volume book “Abai studies. Selected works” (50 volumes) and published it in the publishing house “Kazakh University”.
The first volume of “Abai studies. Selected works” is opened with the speech of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev “The Word about Abai” at a solemn meeting dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Abai, August 9, 1995. The second volume begins with the articles of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Kemeluly Tokayev “Abai and Kazakhstan in the 21st century”, as well as “Abai is a spiritual reformer”.
These 50 volumes occupy a significant place in the development of the history and system of Abai studies, which is a branch of Kazakh literary criticism, as an independent science.
As part of the celebration of the 175th anniversary of Abai Kunanbaiuly, Abai Institute has achieved a number of important and relevant scientific results of national importance. One of the indicators of this is the publication of the 10-volume edition of “Anthology of Abai studies”. The first volume of the anthology starts with an article about Abai by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The mentioned collection was previously prepared at the Abai Research Institute of Al-Farabi KazNU based on the 50-volume book “Abai studies. Selected works” and published by the publishing house “Kazakh University”.
The main scientific monographs of prominent scientists, Abai scholars, writers, such as: M. Auezov, S. Mukanov, K. Zhumaliyev, K. Mukamedkhanov, M. Myrzakhmetov, R. Syzdykova, Z. Akhmetov, Zh. Ismagulov are systematized in “Abai studies anthology” and others, as well as individual studies, some interdisciplinary works of historical and educational significance in the field of Abai studies.
The anthology promotes the development of the humanities, raising the intellectual potential of the country as a whole, and the growth of the spiritual self-awareness of the people. “Anthology of Abai studies” can be described as a great achievement in the history of not only Abai studies, but also the humanities in general. The researches in it are the fundamental works in the history of Abai studies. These works are of interdisciplinary importance.
In addition to the above, I would like to point out the following problem. Multi-volume “Abai studies. Selected works”, a ten-volume edition of “Abai studies Anthology” were prepared in accordance with the Strategy “Kazakhstan-2050”. The Strategy contains the following principle: “To achieve success, an independent scientific base based on the experience of many generations of scientists, special information and knowledge of historically established scientific schools, terabytes of knowledge will be required.”
“Abai studies. Selected works”, “Abai studies anthology” are a real success in the practical implementation of this principle, based on the Strategy “Kazakhstan – 2050”. At Al-Farabi Kazakh National University an independent scientific information base was created based on the experience of many generations of scientists in the field of Abai studies, knowledge developed by historically established scientific schools. This is a socially significant open fund for the preservation, enrichment, propaganda, research of information in the field of Abai studies, provision for use by consumers, preparation of textbooks and teaching aids. “Anthology of Abai studies” is the main component of this database.
The ten-volume “Abai studies anthology” is a great success and a huge contribution to the system of social sciences and the humanities, to the history of Abai studies. Its use serves to strengthen the unity and solidarity of the country, the growth of intellectual potential and the development of public consciousness.
