The International Day of Women and Girls in Science was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University

At Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, a special scientific event was held to mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The event brought together the university’s scientists, faculty members, and young researchers representing various academic fields.

Today, the role of women in the development of science and education at Al-Farabi KazNU is particularly significant, as nearly 65% of the university’s staff are women. A total of 1,724 women are employed at the university, contributing to its sustainable development. Among them are 347 Doctors of Science, 572 Candidates of Science, and one academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In addition, within the framework of grant and targeted funding programs, including the “Zhas Galym” (Young Scientist) initiative and other projects supporting early-career researchers, 146 research projects are currently being implemented under the leadership of women scientists. This demonstrates the high level of scientific leadership achieved by women at the university. Women also play an important role in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by actively participating in research and innovation projects and making a substantial contribution to the advancement of university science.

The event was opened by the Chairman of the Board – Rector of KazNU, Zhanseit Tuymebayev, who emphasized the significant contribution of the university’s women scientists to the development of national science. During the ceremonial session, several researchers were awarded the “Eren Enbegi Ushin” medal for distinguished service.

As part of the event, an exhibition featuring 200 books was organized at the Al-Farabi Library. The display presented scholarly works authored by women professors and faculty members of the university.
