110th anniversary of the birth of Dinmukhamed Kunaev


Today, 12 January, marks the 110th anniversary of the birth of the famous political figure of Kazakhstan Dinmukhamed Kunaev.

Dinmukhamed Akhmedovich Kunaev was a Soviet statesman, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Kazakh SSR, three times Hero of Socialist Labor, academician.

Dinmukhamed Akhmedovich Kunaev was born on January 12, 1912 in Alma-Ata (Almaty). He went down in history as a major statesman, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Kazakh SSR, three times Hero of Socialist Labor, president of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan. In 1936 he graduated from the Moscow Institute of Nonferrous Metals and Gold with a degree in mining engineering. He began working in the trust “Pribalkhashstroy”. Managed the largest industrial enterprises, including holding senior positions in the Altai, Ridder, Leninogorsk mines.From 1952 to 1955 he headed the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan. Under his leadership, scientific research was carried out for the development of both industry and agriculture, the efficient use of Kazakhstan’s natural resources. Kunaev personally published about 200 scientific papers. In 1955-1960 and 1962-1964 Kunaev was the chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR. Dinmukhamed Kunaev actually led Kazakhstan for 25 years. According to statistics, over the years the productive potential of the republic has grown by more than 700%, the volume of industry has grown 9 times, agriculture – 6 times, capital construction – 8 times.

After his resignation, Kunaev lived in Almaty. He died on August 22, 1993 in the village of Akshi, Alakol district, Almaty region, as a result of a heart attack.

He was buried on August 25, 1993 at the Kensai cemetery.

Memory of Kunaev In 2019, his grandchildren opened the official website kunayev.kz, where the biography, documents, reports and archival photos of Dinmukhamed Kunaev are posted.

Since 1992, the “International Kunaev Foundation” has been operating in Almaty.

Kunaev’s house-museum was opened in Almaty in 2002 at the address Tulebaev, 117, and in 2003 a memorial plaque was installed on a house in the village of Akshi, Alakol district, Almaty region, where Kunaev spent the last period of his life.
