On February 2, as part of Press Day, a roundtable discussion was held at the Faculty of Journalism of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, dedicated to the 105th anniversary of one of the country’s oldest national socio-political newspapers, Zhas Alash.
To mark the юбилей, the Al-Farabi Library prepared a thematic exhibition from its collections. Visitors were presented with rare issues of the newspaper Leninshil Zhas from 1951–1953, copies of Zhas Alash from 1991, as well as publications highlighting the history of the newspaper and its path in domestic journalism.
During the meeting, journalists who had worked for the editorial office at different times shared warm memories. The participants emphasized the significance of the publication, which has played a notable role in shaping public opinion and the national consciousness of Kazakhstani society.
The newspaper traces its history back to March 22, 1921, when its first issue was published in Tashkent. The initiator of its establishment and first editor-in-chief was Gani Muratbayev, while Ilyas Zhansugurov served as the responsible secretary.
Over the years, the publication changed its name several times. From 1927, it was published under the title Leninshil Zhas, and following Kazakhstan’s independence, the newspaper regained its historical name — Zhas Alash, under which it continues to be published today.
