Al-Farabi Library

  1. The scientific library was founded together with the university

  2. The automated library information system (KABIS) was introduced, and work began on building the electronic catalogue and personalised information products.

  3. The first stage of building an electronic catalogue to replace the traditional paper card catalogue was completed.

  4. Reader records were entered into a computer database, creating a unified database of library users.

  5. On 8 September, a foundation-laying ceremony for the university library’s new building was held in the presence of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, N. Nazarbayev, and the President of the Czech Republic, V. Klaus.

  6. The scientific library moved into a modern building.

  7. On 13 April, the university’s new library building was officially opened in a grand ceremony.

  8. On 26 June, by the Rector’s Order No. 281, the scientific library was named the “Al-Farabi Library”.

    On 14 November, the 270-seat Electronic Library hall opened.

  9. The library migrated from KABIS to the IRBIS64 automated library information system.

  10. 2016–2017

    A pilot project introducing RFID technology was carried out, reading-room operations were automated, and modern library services were introduced.

  11. A new version of the IRBIS64+ automated library information system was introduced, and the software modules “SK-Electronic Library” and “SK-Wallet” were put into operation.

  12. The UniKeeper PRO system was launched, making book storage, reservation and self-return services available to users around the clock (24/7).
