Practical Training on Working with Scopus and ScienceDirect. Life Hacks for Choosing a Journal for Article Publication for Young Researchers

On December 2 of the current year, a practical training session dedicated to effective work with the international scientific databases Scopus and ScienceDirect, as well as to the proper selection of journals for publishing scientific articles, was held at the Al-Farabi Library. The event was aimed at young scientists, doctoral students, and researchers seeking to improve the quality of their publications and strengthen their international presence in the academic community.

Approximately 50 doctoral students and young researchers of the university took part in the seminar. The strong interest in the event was driven by the relevance of the topic: publication requirements continue to rise, and proficiency in Scopus and ScienceDirect tools has become an essential competency for the modern scholar.

During the seminar, participants were introduced to the capabilities of these platforms for searching scientific literature, analyzing citation data, and selecting relevant sources. Special attention was given to working with journal metrics — CiteScore, SJR, and SNIP—which help evaluate the quality of journals and determine their relevance to the research topic.

The event resulted in a significant improvement in participants’ publication literacy, the development of skills in using modern scientific information resources, and a deeper understanding of the requirements of international scientific journals.
